Warsaw by Night

Polish TV shows are unavoidably linked to Warsaw. The Poland’s capital is a place where the shows were first produced, and this is also where beats the heart of the Polish creative industry. Finally – Warsaw makes for a location of most of Polish serialized content up to date. It is therefore crucial that during the Warsaw by night section of the BNP Paribas Warsaw SerialCon Festival we will honor such a legacy, and bow down to the vibrant city that is also rich with history. In this section we will present the most prominent and groundbreaking titles that forever set the framework for Polish TV, and became the chronicle of social and political change in our country. From the first Polish series ever, communist era staple, a 1964 production of “Barbara and Jan”, directed by Jerzy Ziarnik, all the way to modern homages, including “Blinded by the lights” by Krzysztof Skonieczny, where Warsaw is a concrete jungle filled with dangerous yet stylish gangsters, racing their getaway cars through the nocturnal city. During five late night marathons we will embark on a journey through space and time, through modern history, cultural transformations and technical revolution in order to experience the most important and diverse onscreen versions of Warsaw up to date.
