The Cop (season 1, ep. 1, 2)
“The Cop”, directed by Władysław Pasikowski, is a crime drama, but also a story about love, death, and hatred — about emotions so extreme that they can drive people to commit crimes. The main character, Andrzej Gajewski, is a man in his forties — tough, stubborn, disillusioned, and intolerant of compromise or corruption. He serves as a homicide detective in the criminal division. As his colleagues say, “he’s always been trouble, but he has one virtue — he can’t be bought; he never takes money.” Gajewski carries a heavy burden of life experience. He is withdrawn, bitter, and often relies on instinct when making both personal and professional decisions. Dedicated to his work in the police force, he sacrifices his private life for duty. His marriage has fallen apart, leaving behind tension and regret, and both he and his ex-wife are now trying to find their own paths. The series portrays the demanding and dangerous work of homicide detectives, constantly exposed to stress, risk, and situations that require split-second decisions. Their profession takes a toll on their personal lives — in serving the public, they neglect their loved ones, causing them worry and pain, often at great personal cost.
