Agnieszka Kotlarska was much more than just a recognizable face on magazine covers. In 1991, at just nineteen, she captured the crown of Miss Poland and soon after became the first Polish woman to win Miss International. That victory opened the doors to the world’s top fashion houses. Brands such as Estée Lauder, Versace, and Chanel competed for the chance to work with her. Kotlarska quickly became part of a world that many in Poland could only dream about. Her success symbolized hope — proof that even in the difficult reality of Poland’s post-communist transformation, one could still reach for the stars. 

“Obsession: Murder of a Beauty Queen” is a three-part documentary series that presents not only an intimate portrait of Agnieszka Kotlarska’s life, but also a study of a platonic love that spirals out of control and turns into a dangerous obsession. The production aims not only to pay tribute to a beauty icon but also to draw attention to the issue of stalking — a phenomenon that, three decades later, remains just as relevant and dangerous.
