The anatomy of a series, or the art of designing premium stories 

The meeting will be led by Katarzyna Śliwińska-Kłosowicz, an experienced screenwriter and showrunner who has been creating the most popular Polish television series for years. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the key principles of building drama in a series – both from the perspective of a single episode and an entire season; they will learn about the practical tools of a screenwriter’s work, ways of designing multi-level conflicts, creating distinctive characters and building tension that keeps the viewer glued to the screen for subsequent episodes. During the meeting, the host will also talk about the specifics of working in a writers’ room, the role of a head writer, and how to turn an idea into a coherent, exciting story ready for production. The most common mistakes made in series dramaturgy will be discussed, as well as methods for avoiding them. The meeting will be an opportunity to gain practical knowledge, inspiration and a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of contemporary series – both for novice creators and professionals involved in the industry.
