‘Felicita’ – the role of a showrunner in the Polish context

The role of showrunner – still new in Poland – is becoming crucial for the consistency of vision, quality of narrative and effective coordination of the entire team’s work at all stages of series production.   

‘Felicita’ is a new drama series inspired by the best-selling novel by Katarzyna Kalicińska and Radosław Figura – a story about the search for happiness, love and the courage to start all over again. From the outset, the project was developed with a modern production formula in mind, in which the showrunner – co-author of the book and screenplay, Katarzyna Kalicińska – played a key role. Together with producers Jolanta Filipowicz (TVP) and Grzegorz Piekarski (Golden Media Polska), she will talk about how ‘Felicita’ came to be.   

The creative process – from idea to implementation – was an example of a production model that is becoming increasingly popular in Poland, based on close creative cooperation between the author, producer and director. The series was filmed in Italy, which was not only an artistic challenge, but also an important step towards the internationalisation of Polish television production.
